Before & After: Diagonal Mar Apartment
Before & After of the Diagonal Mar Apartment
Certainly, transforming an apartment in Diagonal Mar means embracing a unique challenge.
On the one hand, the aim is to enhance natural light and redesign the layout. On the other, it’s essential to create an interior that connects visually and emotionally with the Mediterranean surroundings.
Below, we explain what the house looked like before the renovation and how we reimagined each room to achieve a modern, warm and highly functional home.
The Starting Point: a dated, overly divided apartment
Before the renovation, the home presented several issues common in properties from its era.
· Firstly, the apartment was excessively compartmentalized, which blocked natural light.
· Secondly, the distribution was not functional, leading to poorly used areas.
· Moreover, the materials and finishes felt outdated and lacked character.
· Finally, the space didn’t make the most of the stunning sea views, even though it had generous windows.
This initial state allowed us to rethink the home with a new concept in mind: a brighter, more open and much more coherent living environment.
The before and after of the Diagonal Mar Apartment revolves around three key design decisions:
1. A new open layout filled with natural light
To begin with, we removed several walls to create an open, connected living area. This change allows sunlight to flow freely throughout the home. The main goal was clear: to visually connect the kitchen, dining room and living room to form a spacious social hub.
2. Warm materials and a Mediterranean atmosphere
Furthermore, we selected natural woods, soft textiles and a neutral palette to amplify the sense of calm. These materials contribute to an atmosphere that feels both contemporary and timeless.
3. Bespoke furniture to maximize every inch
In addition, we designed custom-made furniture to optimize storage without overwhelming the space. This is especially important in apartments where every centimetre counts.
Kitchen: functionality and elegance in perfect balance
The kitchen’s before and after is one of the most remarkable transformations.
Originally, it felt dark and closed off. Now, it is a bright, open and efficient space thanks to:
· A central island that enhances functionality and social interaction
· A soft, neutral colour palette combined with light wood
· Integrated appliances for a clean, minimalist look
As a result, the kitchen becomes a welcoming area ideal for everyday life.
Living and dining area: a space that breathes the Mediterranean
Before the renovation, the living area lacked openness and visual connection with the exterior.
After the transformation, the space opens fully to the sea views.
Light colours and refined furniture foster a sense of calm, while the seamless transition between living, dining and kitchen enhances the apartment’s contemporary Mediterranean identity.
Main bedroom: A calm and restful retreat
The main bedroom was redesigned with serenity as the priority. Consequently, we introduced:
· A custom headboard with soft, indirect lighting
· Natural textures and warm tones
· Smart and discreet storage solutions
The result is a cosy retreat designed to promote rest and relaxation.
A transformation that redefines coastal living
The Diagonal Mar Apartment showcases how a full renovation can completely transform the experience of living in a home.
The change reveal a journey towards light, comfort and contemporary design, with fluid spaces, warm materials and a Mediterranean essence that connects deeply with its surroundings.
Ultimately, this project reflects the essence of Molins Design: crafting functional, beautiful and thoughtful homes where every detail matters.
