Bernat Marcillas interior designer and generational relief

Who is Bernat Marcillas interior designer?
I consider myself a real restless and interested in almost everything that involves a learning process in the field of creativity. I feel comfortable in the terrain of uncertainty and challenge, how to achieve it makes me feel awake and focused.
It’s true, I am a good initiator of ideas and projects leading them with a high level of commitment to maturity. I consider trips and the look of the traveler, a source of inspiration for the interior decoration , an essential activity to keep the mind fresh and renewed.
I like beauty in objects, music, cinema, architecture, people and of course spaces in all its disciplines I divide my time between the work of designer in Molins, my precious family and another of my great passions, which is the sports activity in the natural environment, especially in my beloved mountains, whether running, skiing or cycling.
A lot of the ideas I’ve had I developed while doing sports. This duality found between urban and natural space becomes necessary in my existence, one nourishes the intellect and the other the spirit.
How did you live as a kid the activity of Molins?
As a child i experienced as something you see that requires a lot of dedication to your parents, at home we ate and dined decoration and work, on weekends many times we went to see customers or decoration fairs, antique shops, etc.
The trips we made in summer, mostly the ones to England and the United States, were always in terms of decoration, architecture, culture, museums and interior design studios. In the end it was already something incorporated into our lives.
How were your beginnings in Molins?
I was working in a couple of interior design studios in Barcelona and I joined Molins at that time to make a line of furniture they needed. I start as a helper of my mother, at that time we were three people and there was a lot of work to do.
We remodeled the entire office and went from being a showroom to an interior design studio. They were changes not easy to digest, but with time they were consolidated, I imagine that it is difficult to stop seeing your son as you have always seen him to move on to treat him like a professional.
My coffee and my Iphone that is practically an extension of my body and a window of communication with the world, lately the Airpods also make the existence more pleasant and of course my case of pens and pencils of different thicknesses.

A favorite place to disconnect?
La Cerdanya is one of my favorite gaming territories where I go with my family to feel wild.
I have often come to consider it an earthly paradise and of course Morocco as a place of almost annual pilgrimage for its variety of landscapes, people, textures and colors.
A way through which to express ourselves creatively, to convey who we are and how we would like to see our surroundings. That fits with the personality of who will live or visit, that correctly defines the brand that must represent, basically that is consistent with the place and the message you have to communicate.
Of course it is also a big commitment and a huge responsibility.
Masters or references?
At an international level we are very fans of Christian Liaigre, Super Potato Design, Conran & Partners and above all the great Italian brands such as Poliform, Maxalto, Rimadesio and others who leave us gawking at the Milan fair every year.
Locally in Barcelona we have designers who we admire and respect as Taruella, Ferruz, Rifé, Isabel Lopez, Adela Cabré, GCA and many more that I’m sure I’m leaving.

How do Bernat Marcillas interior designer think the future of interior design in Barcelona will be?
Exciting for sure! In the area of the domestic, the interior design will be more and more polarized, hand made and to measure for a public with more sophisticated needs, where the ability to provide an excellent service will be a more valued need. On the other hand there will be another audience that will increasingly demand a type of living environment, where the value of a well-designed product will be important but the price factor will be decisive.
At the aesthetic level styles are multiple and varied, if I could venture for a particular trend I would bet for a super local style, mixed with super technological nuances and where the value of sustainability and energy efficiency will be key elements.
Where does Molins Design go?
Molins in the last years is making great efforts to try to communicate better through the different channels that we have; website, social networks … trying to communicate that every time has more and better designer identity. In the coming years we want to strengthen our facet of industrial designers, trying to bring brands closer so that they trust Molins as a partner to design the models of their new products, that is where we are going to invest a large part of our improvement efforts.
On the other hand for this year we have prepared the surprise that we will reveal soon, the new facade of our studio, as a new way of showing us towards the city that we love so much.
