Decoration with wooden slats
Undoubtedly, wood is one of the materials that offers more possibilities in interior decoration. Certainly, in recent years there has been an irruption of new and innovative materials but none has managed to overshadow wood. It is a warm material that offers many possibilities, it is cozy and highly decorative. The decoration with wood strips appears in many interior design projects.
In Molins Design we have developed several projects in which we have included walls decorated with wooden slats.
However, we know that there are more possibilities. It is a resource that can be used as a dividing element, to line furniture or to decorate ceilings.
With these lines we want to explain which are the woods that can be used and what should be taken into account for this. And above all we will explain how we use the decoration with wooden slats to achieve unique atmospheres.
Preliminary notes on wood strips
First of all, the project of decoration with slats must include wood suitable for the conditions of the room. The durability of the slats is very high and they are also a very resistant resource. The ideal is to include wood of sustainable origin and that are treated to avoid problems with moisture or pests.
The decoration with wooden slats provides volume and enhances the personality of the environments. By alternating varieties and colors, it is possible to adapt the installation to Nordic, industrial, modern, rustic and urban styles.
The secret is to integrate the slats into the overall style of the house. The arrangement should be harmonious and it is possible to play with the repetition of patterns. Depending on the other accessories, it is possible to design vertical or horizontal assemblies. Undoubtedly, the contribution will always enhance the light, elegant and contemporary air.
Possibilities of decorating with wooden slats
Decorating with wooden slats is possible in many rooms of the house. In addition, they can also be used on furniture or stairs. On the other hand, they are not only installed in homes.
In recent years, wooden slatted structures have been installed in offices, offices, studios, clinics and hotels.
Living room-kitchen
Certainly, using wooden slats to separate the kitchen area from the living room is a fantastic option. Firstly, because it enhances the elegance of an area of daily use and secondly because visual contact between the two rooms is possible. It is also possible to cover the kitchen island or the breakfast bar with slats.
Bedrooms
If there is an ideal place for decorating with wooden slats in the bedroom, it is the headboard of the bed. Depending on the line of the furniture, you can choose to build it with slats horizontally or vertically. Wood combines very well with light textiles and brings more comfort to a room intended for rest.
It is also possible to cover with slats the front of the bedside tables or the backs of the closets of the dressing room. Finally, it is a good idea to use wooden slats to separate the integrated bathroom from the suite.
Receivers
In Molins Design we bet for the decoration with wooden slats when designing the hall of our Rechson penthouse. We placed slats from floor to ceiling to achieve a very modern cube effect. The intention was to separate the entrance area from the rest of the attic but without hiding the view.
Ceilings and corridors
Wooden slats can be installed on the ceilings as beams or paneling on terraces. In this case, you can play with the thickness and the dark tone of the wood variety.
It is also a good idea to design a hallway with slats, especially if it is a narrow space. The feeling of spaciousness is reinforced and auxiliary furniture that could hinder the passage is avoided.
Ladder
Stairs are an ideal place to place wood strips. It enhances the verticality of the place providing an elegant and warm touch. In addition, it also reinforces the feeling of safety when walking the stairs.
Strips of different types of wood
When choosing the wood to make the slats, it is important to consider factors such as color, the type of lighting in the room or the environmental conditions of the room.
It is becoming increasingly common for interior designers to experiment with different types of wood.
The result is a bold, classic or avant-garde decoration with slats. From Molins Design we want to give you four brushstrokes about the most used woods.
American oak. It is one of the most beautiful woods in existence. It is a hard variety from which strips with a very elegant grain can be extracted. It is usually brown in color.
Beech. The decoration with beech wood strips facilitates the carving of the piece. The reason is that it is a semi-hard wood with a color ranging from white through orange to pink. Another striking property is the almost total absence of grain.
Sapelly. It is a wood from the African continent with a very attractive tobacco brown color. It is suitable for decorations in bathrooms, kitchens and exteriors because it withstands humidity very well.
American ash. It is a semi-hard wood with a pale yellow or light brown color. The grain contrasts because it is usually brown.
Melix pine. It is a wood that is worked a lot in the United States. It has a very marked grain on yellow, orange or reddish brown tones. It has no knots and is not recommended for use in kitchen areas or sinks because it stains easily.
At Molins Design we have worked with some of these wooden slats to create modern and elegant decorations. If you are convinced by this trendy style, contact us, tell us your tastes and we will work to achieve a functional, comfortable and beautiful space.
