MILA APARTMENT

In search of practical and functional spaces in perfect harmony.

It sounds like a recurring elevator conversation, but the reality is that the pandemic has meant for most of us a paradigm shift in various aspects of our lives. One of the most significant shifts that this recalculation of needs has generated is in the perception of our home. We are now looking for practical and functional spaces that coexist in perfect harmony.

After the many hours we have spent confined to our most intimate living space, a series of concerns have been generated regarding the uses and perceptions of it. Thus, it has become clear the urgent need for changes, both in the most functional aspects, as in the aesthetic details and the perception of comfort.

The Mila Apartment project has a close link with the InProcess office design, since we are talking about the same owner. This new domestic intervention is a clear response to this need to make our living environment a balanced and harmonious space. It is no coincidence that, the widespread trend in the design world, is betting on soft chromatic trends. In fact, whites and pastel tones are becoming the usual choice of color palette. In addition, textures of natural origin and with a "soft" look extend over the upholstery of many of the sofas and armchairs of the projects that are being presented as a trend in the publications of specialized magazines.

REFORM OF A LARGE LIVING ROOM WITH FIREPLACE AND BOOKCASE

The partial intervention that we present today is based on the use of the existing parquet flooring as a neutral base on which to start working. In a way, that already conditions a starting point through which we will have a common thread to pull on an aesthetic level.

In terms of form, we started from the premise that the elevation of the chimney wall did not quite work. Therefore, the property asked us for an organizational change; a reform that would achieve practical and functional spaces. We had to make the fireplace a new suit as a lining, something that at the same time gave us an answer to store all the audio and video systems. But, also, to include the space of the fire hydrant.

The bet was to advance the entire work plane in line with the outer profile of the fireplace. In this way, all the nooks and crannies of the building's installations were included, helping to visualize the whole in the same work plane. For this purpose, we played with the combination of oak wood paneling in natural color, combined with a large format porcelain tile in a light tone that gave us the note of contrast.

Another key piece of the intervention has been the lacquered wood bookcase, located to the right of the living room. In this room we also found a piano, guarded by two blocks of shelves, all carefully illuminated by LED strips hidden in the back of them. All this, conforms a greater prominence and depth to the texture of natural oak wood.

SET OF MIRRORS FOR THE ENTRANCE HALL

Special dedication has been given to the main entrance hall, where we have chosen to cover the walls with bronze-colored mirrors. An intervention designed to provide a greater sense of space through the interesting work of reflection that gives us this material.

As we move along this entrance hallway we find the overhanging chest of drawers in light lacquered wood. A decorative accessory that gives us a nice feeling of horizontality, while giving us a large storage capacity. This drawer unit connects us, then, with a niche type furniture, which serves as a dividing screen with respect to the dining room piece. This niche marks the height of the dining room wainscot, which also serves as a radiator cover.

CHOICE OF DESIGN PIECES AND FABRICS

A series of singular design pieces have been created especially for Mila Apartment. This is the bookcase located on the right arm of the sofa, baptized by us as Defense model, which gives us a particular visual from the circulation of the entrance. Another characteristic piece, which has already appeared in some of our most iconic designs, is the overlapping coffee table. A piece of furniture that allows us to place, simultaneously and on the same plane, a work surface and a pouf. Undoubtedly, a very comfortable combination for everyday use.

Finally, highlight the interesting selection of fabrics in light tones. For the various elements of upholstery that make up the space have been used wool materials type "sheepskin", which give that extra feeling of comfort. But they also enhance the peace and visual harmony that our client needed.

The space of the suite is a continuation of the discourse with which we come from the living room. A language of integrated mirrors hiding the interiors of cabinets, retro illuminated ceilings, contrasted with the natural oak doors, paneling and headboards. An overall proposal that adopts the unique features of the rest of the house and that rounds the most intimate area of the domestic space of our proposal.
