HOUSE RENOVATION PROJECT OF A SINGLE-FAMILY HOUSE IN COLLSEROLA
The commission for this project arose from a meeting with an old friend from the design school. He contacted us because he wanted to renovate the living room with fireplace in the house he had just moved into. The house, located in a special place in Barcelona (the Carretera de les Aigües), had many possibilities due to its privileged position. Its magnificent views of the city, in a natural setting, made it a unique single-family home project.
FULL REFURBISHMENT OF THE ONE-FAMILY HOUSE.
Seeing the possibilities of the home we proposed a radical change in the original concept. The flat was divided in two due to the service staircase, which served solely and exclusively to access the roof. The staircase was the key to this house renovation project single-family house. Therefore, one of the first decisions we made was to change its direction.
What apparently seemed simple, was not so simple. This change also meant modifying the constructive element of access to the roof. The staircase had to be a light and transparent element. We continued to work on the idea of creating a glass pavilion. This design structure would at the same time provide access to the terrace. But also to add natural light to the rest of the house.
The idea worked; more space in the living room, a staircase that was integrated into the fireplace unit and a fantastic entry of natural light that bathed the entire ground floor.
INTERIOR DESIGN AND DECORATION OF RUSTIC HOUSES
For the interior style of the house we based ourselves on the basics of rustic house decoration. Therefore, we installed a large wooden table in the main space of the kitchen-dining room. In addition, its minimalist design combines perfectly with the Konstantin Grcic chairs placed around its perimeter. Matching the aesthetic criteria, we placed a Roc lamp by Foscarini above the table. Likewise, the casual touch of the kitchen is given by the blackboard in the background, very practical for taking notes and making drawings. In short, a blackboard that invades the entire wall and in which the access doors to the double bedroom and the storage room are integrated.
HOMES WITH TERRACES IN THE ROOFTOPS
Another important point of this renovation was to find out how to make a roof terrace. Our main objective was to make it functional and, at the same time, to combine it perfectly with the rest of the decoration of thIS house renovation project.
To dress up the terrace we used the odd piece of oak furniture, combined with sofas, sun loungers and other chill out accessories. The cover was also covered with Chivaso outdoor fabrics in different colours and with a braided finish.
TRANSFORMING THE ROOF
The roof stopped being a simple element of constructive completion and became a fantastic terrace with views of the city. The perimeter parapet of the roof was transformed into a glass railing that gave it complete transparency. For the termination of the floor we used a Timbertech synthetic pallet that helped us to level the slopes of the roof and allowed us to reach the height of the last step of the terrace. A different and expanded script that improved the general approach to housing
In the aesthetics of materials, we bet to give an urban-country-chic approach. Oak slats aged in warm shades, which contrast with rough iron drawers. White broken for the perimeter walls, sofa upholstery in gray chinilla and Chester-type armchairs capitone in aged leather, have just given personality and character to the set. A practical "pouf" center with wheels covered with Andrew Martin fabric just in front of the fireplace, serves both footrest to place trays.
SOLUTION 2 IN 1
One of the functional pieces to solve in the living room was that of the television cabinet. We solved it by killing two birds with one stone, on the one hand we covered an old opening, which with the current script did not make sense and on the other side we housed all the audiovisual equipment, leaving the television completely flush and framed in a piece of furniture made of wood textured oak.
