How to choose modern kitchen sinks?

There are many tasks that we perform every day in our kitchen: meals, family gatherings, storing and storing the food from our weekly shopping, etc. But, in the kitchen we also carry out different cleaning tasks, in which the use of a sink is essential.
In recent years, modern kitchen sinks have evolved into unique design pieces.
Comfortable, easy to use and clean, besides being multifunctional and without forgetting their aesthetics.
From Molins Design today we are going to show you how to choose a sink that complements the style of your kitchen. Do you dare to discover your ideal model? Let’s start!
Materials for sinks with a unique design
The first thing you should choose before reforming your kitchen sink is the type of sink you want to place.
In today’s market there are different materials to manufacture modern kitchen sinks, among which we highlight:
1. Stainless steel, a classic in modern sinks
Undoubtedly, the lightest and most durable material for a sink. A material that offers maximum resistance to impact and heat, and is also a very hygienic option.
Nowadays, modern kitchen sinks made of stainless steel combine perfectly with minimalist decors.
Their simple and elegant lines make them the ideal choice for those who are also looking for the best value for money.
2. Resin synthetics, the most versatile
Synthetic resin materials offer a wide range of sinks in decorative terms. Being much more resistant and hygienic design pieces than the classic stainless steel sinks, they withstand moderate temperatures and have a high tolerance to limescale.
These modern kitchen sinks incorporate in their composition mineral charges that give them a greater hardness and resistance, as well as a wide range of colors. Therefore, it will be the ideal material if what you want is to customize to the smallest detail this piece of design in your kitchen.
3. Ceramic for a more rustic option
A robust material and typical of the sinks that, for some time, has entered with force in the kitchens given its excellent properties. We highlight a type of sink that is very resistant, hygienic and intolerant to scratches, limescale and the passage of time.
These sinks are usually the best option to combine in rustic and traditional style decorations.
4. Solid Surface sinks
Solid Surface’ materials allow the creation of innovative sink shapes, with imperceptible joints and completely smooth surfaces. As a highly resistant and durable material, this option is becoming the latest trend.
The reason is that it perfectly combines the aesthetics of natural stone with the functionality of a piece as common as a kitchen sink.

Types of sinks according to their installation
Once you have the material of your sink, the next step is to choose the type of installation in the kitchen. As of today, modern kitchen sinks can be placed using the traditional inset or installed under the countertop. Let’s see the difference between them!
● Built-in. The classic sinks, those that rest on the countertop and leave a more or less wide edge on their sides.
● Undermount. Those sinks that are placed under the countertop, leaving the work area free and being in turn much more hygienic.
● Flush. Sinks that are at the same level as the countertop, being an extension of it.
● Overmounted. Sinks that are installed directly on a piece of furniture, being unique pieces of design with a very decorative finish.
Sizes does matters!
Modern kitchen sinks tend to be large and spacious, making it easier to clean larger pots and utensils. However, there is not always enough space to include sinks with large, deep bowls. In fact, the size you choose will depend on the space available in your kitchen.
To correctly calculate the size of your sink, it is essential to measure the total available space in that kitchen front and also the width of the cabinet where the sink will be mounted.
Between the cooktop and the sink there must be a minimum distance of 60 cm. If you have a reduced space, for example, a small cabinet of 30 cm, you only have the option of a reduced rectangular elongated sink. However, for 80 cm furniture you can choose a two-bowl sink. And for large cabinets of 120 cm you can choose a sink with two and a half bowls or one and a half bowls with drainer included.

The latest in modern kitchen sink accessories
The most modern sinks can be customized down to the smallest detail, becoming pieces with greater functionality in the kitchen.
From Molins Design we advise you to take a look at all the accessories with which you can equip any type of sink: dish drainer, bowls for washing vegetables or fruit, cutting boards, etc..
Each of these elements can be integrated into your new sink or become extensible parts of the sink for when you need them, so get ready to create a versatile modular sink that will help you with your cooking and cleaning tasks!
By the way, do not forget to accompany everything with a practical and removable faucet, so that your kitchen enjoys a unique design piece, but above all practical and functional.
