BEFORE WE START...

If you are one of those who have a small terrace or balcony in Madrid, you can feel very lucky. However, keeping this space in oblivion and without the necessary care, can end up sinking the interior design of your home.

From Molins Design we advise you to take into account the following tips on how to decorate a terrace of an apartment. With a lot of care and taste you can create charming outdoor spaces, which you will undoubtedly take advantage of whatever the time of year.

CHECK THE SPACE YOU HAVE AVAILABLE

Something very basic, but that we often forget. It will be essential to measure the space available on our terrace. It will not be the same decoration that we will adopt for the terrace of an attic, than the one chosen for the small balcony of an apartment in the middle of the city. You must be consistent with your space to choose the furniture and lighting that best matches your urban terrace.

SET A BUDGET

Think beforehand how much you want to spend on the renovation of your terrace or balcony. It will be essential to avoid unpleasant surprises once you have finished the design of your urban terrace.

IDEAS FOR URBAN DESIGN TERRACES

Here are some of our ideas for decorating an outdoor terrace or small balcony:

1.- SURROUND YOURSELF WITH PLANTS

The green of the plants will make you safe from the prying eyes of your neighbors. Help yourself with vines or a vertical garden to create a private space away from others.

In addition, the decoration with plants will become your best ally to decorate with taste and style your urban terrace, count on them and create a natural space without leaving home!

2.- CREATE A RELAXING SPACE

With ornaments for terraces typical of the chill out style you can create urban terraces that invite you to meditate. Use a mat and a few plants or aromatic flowers to teleport yourself to your favorite places.

Even the smallest balcony can do the trick. So, if your urban terrace takes up very little space, think about this outdoor design. What are you waiting for to design your little sanctuary?

3.- PLAY WITH LIGHT FABRICS AND PRINTS

Urban terraces can also be flirty in a small or mini space. So don’t be afraid to combine different fabrics and colors. As long as the chosen decoration does not conflict with the interior of your home, you can add all kinds of elements: cushions, rugs, blankets, etc.

BEWARE! If you decide on a hydraulic floor, composed of some brightly colored mosaic, it will be better to choose simpler and cleaner textiles. Light and neutral colors can help you create the ideal fabric decoration.

4.- WOODEN FLOORBOARDS FOR A COZY AMBIENCE

If the classic masonry floors do not convince you, try to bring more comfort and warmth to your urban terrace by placing platforms made with wooden slats. These floors are perfect for creating a cozy and versatile atmosphere.

In addition, wooden decking becomes one of the most hygienic and weather-resistant terrace flooring. As well as easy to maintain and with very good thermal insulation properties.

5.- FURNISHING A SMALL TERRACE

A small table with two chairs will be the minimum furniture you should use to furnish your terrace or balcony. Although, if you have more space, you can think about placing an armchair, sofa or poufs to increase the comfort of your outdoor area.

Wood is always a safe bet for terrace furniture, although you can opt for other design options. The important thing here is to use furniture from the same collection and finishes, so that they provide the coherence and design that your urban terrace deserves. It will also be an added advantage to then decorate and add the terrace ornaments that we like.

6.- URBAN TERRACES IN PENTHOUSES

Widely known as Urban Rooftop, are terraces of exclusive design and have wonderful views of the sky of Madrid. In them you can make your dreams come true, placing the furniture that best matches your interior space.

Turn this outdoor space into the delight of your guests, placing a comfortable, natural and functional decoration. Depending on the available space, it can be the ideal outdoor area to locate a chill out space where you just have to let yourself go.
