How to tune up your pool
Before you dive into summer, be sure to tune up your pool. You don't want to lose a single day of swimming due to lack of maintenance.
What do you need to know to get your pool ready?
When the good weather arrives, domestic pools become a perfect oasis to face the high temperatures. Whether in the garden or terrace, enjoying peaceful and relaxing moments is essential.
However, before jumping into the water, it is essential to get your pool ready, both the water and the base.
1. Complete exam
The pool has several elements that must be in optimal conditions to guarantee its operation. Check skimmers, grates, sumps and showers. If you find any broken items, replace them.
Also, check that the outdoor shower is working properly.
2. Water preservation
It is not necessary to drain the pool every year, especially if it does not require extensive repairs. As a general rule, don’t empty it at the end of summer, unless you live in an area where the water can freeze completely.
If you left water during the winter, check its color and smell when you uncover it, and you will be able to deduce what will have to be done, but never forget the following actions to control the water.
3. Check and adjust the pH
Be sure to measure and correct the pH of the water. If your pool uses chlorine, add half the chemical dose when it is half full and the rest when filling it completely.
After filling, wait at least 6 hours before bathing and make sure the chlorine and pH levels are correct according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Salt chlorination pools:
In salt chlorination pools, you don’t need chlorine tablets every few days. Salt is used to clean the water, but the concentration is so low that it does not make it salty or irritating to the eyes or skin.
At the beginning of the season, add approximately 5 kg of salt per cubic meter, and then reuse this salt throughout the season.
If you have installed a cover on your pool to protect it from leaves, pollen and insects, it is important to maintain it properly:
Movable covers: Clean them with detergent every 3 to 6 months and lubricate them before the bathing season. If the structure is made of aluminum, wash it with a solution of warm water and neutral detergent, rinse and dry.
Fixed covers: Follow the same process as with mobile ones, but without the need to lubricate. Clean the structure according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Textile cover: Clean it twice a year with soapy water and products recommended by the manufacturer. Additionally, clean the rails at least once a year to remove accumulated dirt.
Once the previous steps are completed, you can enjoy the summer with peace of mind. Remember to remove dirt from the surface and walls when necessary.
Also check the pH of the water to avoid eye discomfort. An optimal pH should be between 7.2 and 7.6. If it is above, use a chlorine reducing product; If it is below, add a little more of this chemical.
In summary, before diving into the refreshing waters of your pool, be sure to perform a thorough examination of the elements, preserve the water properly, check and adjust the pH, and keep the covers in good condition.
By following these steps on how to tune up your pool, you will be able to enjoy good and refreshing moments in your fully tuned pool this summer.
