Begur House
Begur House is a renovation and interior design project in Begur where Mediterranean essence is reinterpreted through a contemporary lens. Because of using natural materials, curved lines, and a strong connection to the surrounding landscape.
Located in Baix Empordà, and more specifically in the privileged setting of Begur, this home belongs to one of the most distinctive landscapes on the Costa Brava.
It is a territory deeply rooted in the Mediterranean imagination. Indeed, its rugged topography, native vegetation, proximity to the sea, and the force of the tramontana wind have historically shaped a way of living that is closely tied to place.
Contemporary Mediterranean Interior Design in Begur
Undoubtedly, this is one of those projects that allows creativity to flow freely, inviting us to step outside our comfort zone and explore organic forms. At the same time, it is an opportunity to interpret a contemporary Mediterranean style through a clear foundation of warm minimalism, with our unmistakable essence.
This interior design project in Begur focuses on a 200 m² home spread over two floors, sharing one side wall with the adjoining property. In addition, it forms part of a residential complex with communal spaces such as a swimming pool and garden.
The challenge was to completely update the house, providing it with the highest standards of comfort and technology. While at the same time, reformulating its aesthetic language through a contemporary, warm, and locally rooted perspective. As a result, the project establishes a new dialogue between architecture, interior design, and landscape.
An Intervention That Redefines Space
The brief involved a dual ambition. On the one hand, it had to respond to the functional needs of a couple who occasionally host guests. On the other hand, it sought to create an atmosphere capable of reinterpreting the essence of the Mediterranean through a contemporary language.
To achieve this, the project began with a tabula rasa approach, completely resetting the previous layout while preserving only the essential structural elements. From this point onward, the house was reorganized to offer a more fluid, luminous, and coherent living experience, perfectly aligned with the lifestyle of its owners.
The design of Begur House is built upon a reinterpretation of contemporary Mediterranean interior design, understood as a balance between local tradition and a current architectural language.
Therefore, the proposal recovers the essence of Mediterranean architecture through a more refined perspective, where natural light, noble materials, and a close relationship with the outdoors define the experience.
For this reason, the project combines the restraint of clean lines with the tactile richness of traditional stucco, natural stone, reclaimed wood, and fabrics in soft neutral tones.
Consequently, the result is a contemporary Mediterranean house on the Costa Brava where calm, elegance, and a connection to the landscape take centre stage.

Designer Living Room in Begur: A Warm, Serene, Light-Filled Space
Clearly, the main living room is conceived as one of the emotional cores of the home. Spacious, luminous, and deeply enveloping, this room captures the essence of the project through a balanced combination of soft volumes, natural materials, and a serene colour palette.
The fireplace, with its organic shape and quiet presence, becomes the focal point of the space, visually structuring the sitting area. Beyond its aesthetic value, however, the living room reflects a way of living that goes far beyond seasonal use.
Materials That Define the Atmosphere
Likewise, the materials have been carefully selected to bring naturalness, texture, and a sense of calm to the interiors. Upholstery is resolved through linen and cotton in warm neutral shades, applied to curtains, sofas, rugs, and armchairs to create an enveloping atmosphere.
Meanwhile, cushions and other decorative elements introduce subtle contrasts within a carefully controlled palette. Reclaimed wooden ceiling beams, recovered with great effort and sensitivity, add character, depth, and memory to the whole, reinforcing the idea of an architecture rooted in its setting.
The Organic Identity of Mediterranean Interior Design
Without a doubt, the house moves away from the rigidity of traditional geometries and instead embraces a softer, more organic, and continuous volumetry. This resource appears not only in the transitions between rooms, but also in pillars, walls, bespoke furniture pieces, and integrated architectural features.
In this way, the semicircular arches evoke Mediterranean building traditions, while their contemporary reinterpretation reinforces the sculptural character of the proposal. Finished in traditional stucco, these rounded volumes create a continuous skin that wraps the interior with naturalness and coherence.
Moreover, the presence of curves not only defines the project’s aesthetic identity, but also softens spatial perception and creates a more immersive living experience.
An Intimate Reading Space
Within the living room, the project incorporates a reading area with a library that adds depth and enriches the use of the shared space. This area is naturally integrated into the ground floor and interacts harmoniously with the fireplace, the natural light, and the tactile materiality of the interior.
It is a space designed to pause, read, rest, and enjoy the slower rhythm proposed by the house. The custom-made library combines a natural stone structure with backlit oak shelves and brass wall lamps. As such, its presence reinforces the idea of a home designed to be lived in all year round and extends the warmest dimension of the project.
Ultimately, this area helps define a ground floor full of subtle nuances, where each space finds its place without fragmenting the overall layout.
An Open, Fluid, and Functional Layout
Unquestionably, the new interior layout has been designed around a clear logic of functionality and well-being. The ground floor brings together the shared living areas and a guest bedroom, while the upper floor is entirely devoted to the main suite. In this way, a natural separation is created between the daytime area and the more private, intimate spaces.
As a consequence, all unnecessary partitions were removed in order to encourage a more open and fluid circulation. The rooms relate to one another without losing their own identity, creating a sequence of connected environments linked by light, materiality, and formal continuity.
As a result, the layout gains spaciousness, order, and flexibility, while reinforcing the project’s contemporary Mediterranean design character through comfort and quality of life.
Zenithal Light and Architectural Presence
Also, the staircase is one of the project’s major gestures and goes far beyond its functional role to become a sculptural element with strong architectural presence. Positioned centrally, it articulates the relationship between the ground and upper floors and acts as a visual anchor for the whole house.
Its organic design, defined by soft and expressive lines, turns it into one of the home’s most iconic features. Furthermore, its verticality is enhanced by natural light entering through a skylight opened in the roof. This allows light to descend softly into the heart of the house, emphasizing the curved surfaces that accompany it.
Thus, the staircase becomes an architectural experience in itself and reinforces the sensory character of this Mediterranean interior design project in Begur.
Mediterranean Garden on the Costa Brava: Native Vegetation and a Connection to the Landscape
All the same happens in the garden. It is conceived as a curated selection of native Mediterranean species, complemented by the occasional fruit tree such as a lemon tree. The aim is to build an outdoor setting that remains coherent with the project’s identity while reinforcing its integration into the Empordà landscape.
Again, the swimming pool, located in front of the residential complex, has also been redesigned with a more contemporary image. Its basin was raised to evoke the appearance of an irrigation channel, a subtle reference to the rural world, made possible through the use of glazed tiles by Ceràmica Ferrés.
These traditional, locally produced pieces, enriched with natural green pigments, help the pool blend into the landscape. In doing so, they establish a subtle relationship between architecture, craftsmanship, and territory.
In addition, the decorative lighting incorporates a reinterpretation of roof tiles as a local construction element, integrating them into a wall as reliefs and creating a refined nod to regional architectural tradition.
Comfort, Privacy, and Sea Views in Begur
It should be noted, that the upper floor is entirely dedicated to the main suite, conceived as a space of intimacy and well-being. This room opens onto a large terrace and is organised around a double-sided fireplace that can be enjoyed from both adjoining areas. This solution introduces a sophisticated sense of comfort and reinforces the enveloping nature of the room.
Similarly, the bathroom follows the same logic of continuity and serenity that defines the entire project. Materials, tones, and forms maintain a consistent aesthetic with the rest of the house, favouring a unified reading of the space. As a result, the main suite becomes a refuge where privacy, light, and sea views come together to offer a high-end residential experience.
Order, Continuity, and Timeless Elegance
Like it couldn’t be other way, the dressing room is conceived as a natural extension of the bedroom and is integrated with the same sensitivity that characterizes the entire project. Beyond its practical role, it forms part of the spatial sequence of the upper floor and reinforces the overall suite concept.
Its design prioritizes visual order, spaciousness, and material continuity, avoiding unnecessary interruptions while maintaining a calm and elegant atmosphere. The presence of the double-sided fireplace adds a singular quality, establishing an unusual relationship between areas that are traditionally separated and elevating the everyday experience.
Equally, in Begur House, the dressing area is not merely functional; rather, it is an essential part of domestic comfort.
An Extension of the Interior with Views over the Costa Brava
Clearly, the upper-floor terrace is one of the most privileged spaces in the home. Open to the outdoors, it is conceived as a natural extension of the main suite and as a protected, calm, and fully Mediterranean place to spend time.
Hence the relationship with the exterior is, in fact, one of the major driving forces of the project. The terrace seeks visual and material continuity with the interior, blurring the boundary between inside and outside. To this end, natural limestone flooring is laid in a distinctive pattern that combines different formats, enriching the perception of the outdoor space.
Carefully selected outdoor furniture by Kettal complements the proposal through colours linked to the landscape and an aesthetic consistent with the rest of the home. Under the roof, this space is protected from the characteristic north wind of the area as well as from nighttime humidity.
Therefore, the terrace becomes an intermediate place for relaxation, contemplation, and social life, fully aligned with a Mediterranean way of living outdoors.
