Pedralbes House
In the foothills of Collserola, in one of the best areas to live with children in Barcelona, a young foreign couple with two children find the ideal house to move into and settle down indefinitely.
In this context, the clients contact Molins Design for a decoration house in Pedralbes to transform this house with a lot of potential into their new home in Spain.
Sophisticated decoration project for a house in Pedralbes
Many people around the world are choosing the city of Barcelona to live in.
In the Pedralbes neighborhood, there is a wide range of schools with a great variety of educational modalities, and multiple exclusive leisure and lifestyle services that are a real attraction for new owners.
Our clients, a young couple with two children, were looking for a large and modern home where they could settle down and receive family and friends for long stays.
At the interior design level, we had to dress the whole house with some elements of the property and add much of the furniture and decoration to give shape to a house of large dimensions completely empty.
The young owner couple, with a great taste for fashion and modern art, were very clear that they wanted a modern and functional decoration, where neutral tones were predominant.
Another essential requirement in this decoration project for a house in Pedralbes was to have several rooms to accommodate guests, as well as different multifunctional spaces.
The house with a fully glazed facade surrounded by a structure of aluminum slats and newly built, was delivered completely empty and with several spaces without just being functional.
It was for this reason that they contacted Molins Design to adapt a house without a well-defined program into a home where they could settle down and live as a family.
The skin of the house of this decoration project for a house in Pedralbes, clad in porcelain, contrasts with a powerful aluminum structure, which protects the house from solar radiation.
These gold-colored lacquered slats allow adapting to the different seasons of the year, improving the thermal control and energy efficiency of the house.
The architecture of the house has a strong contemporary character with clean volumes but broken at the same time.
An interesting play of voids on the east-facing side of the house allows the water sheet of the swimming pool to be incorporated into the house itself.
This gesture of retraction is used to generate a glazed curtain wall that serves as a light entrance to the entire stairwell.
A very particular distribution
The general distribution of this decoration project for a house in Pedralbes is described in a main floor at the foot of the garden where all the rooms of the day area are located, an upper floor where the bedrooms of the family are located and another floor that makes up the rooftop area.
Below the main floor, there is a first floor where the service area, laundry and two guest bedrooms are located. Finally, the basement floor includes the garage and a large multipurpose area where a gym and a sewing room are located.
That is why this detached house of four floors plays with a double accessibility, at different heights. For this reason, the distribution of the different rooms had a very important role at a functional level for the comfort of the family.
The glazed stairs of minimalist air are the backbone of the house, which communicate the different floors of this large villa in Barcelona.
A luxury entrance hall of a house in Pedralbes
The entrance hall of this house in Pedralbes is presented as an open space where the main protagonists are the views of the garden with pool, so only the entrance area was decorated with very functional elements and minimalist air.
On one side, we positioned an inverted U-shaped console made of oak veneer in gray tones next to a sculptural bench by Pierre Frey upholstered in a matching gray tone and a table lamp by Brokis.
On the other side, we created a custom-made wardrobe-like piece of furniture with a closet area at the top, and in the lower area we created a corner for the family pet. The touch of elegance is provided by the fabulous Philip Watts handles.
Curves and textures for the decoration of a modern and gray living room
The owners with a great taste for fashion and modern art were very clear that they wanted a modern and functional decoration, where gray, white and black tones predominate.
A clear example of their aesthetic and functional preferences is the spacious modern gray living room. Designed in soft tones and textures, it highlights the design of custom furniture in dark tones such as black and gray.
The custom-made oak veneer bookcase in black features a gas fireplace, a built-in TV and a backlit decorative niche that breaks up the horizontality of the set and gives it a distinctive touch.
The oversized L-shaped sofa upholstered in bouclé fabric responds to customer demand for a warm and welcoming space in which to spend time with the family and receive visitors.
The outstanding pieces of this living room in gray and wood tones are those that break with the neutral tones and bring a touch of color, such as the Litho armchair by Pierre Frey upholstered in synthetic leather in earth color and the large decorative bookcase behind the sofa.
Sophisticated and modern design for a house in Pedralbes
In line with the living room and in contrast with the white flooring, in the sophisticated dining room of this decoration project for a house in Pedralbes we also opted for custom-made wooden furniture in dark tones.
The property called for a large dining table that could accommodate several diners, a premise on which the Molins team designed this model of rectangular table with a metal structure that combines with Andreu World chairs with seats upholstered in fabric from Designers Guild.
To provide storage space, two tall cabinets were created in the same oak veneer in black with the special touch of Philip Watts‘ sculptural gold handles.
To finish dressing up the space, the elegant Gaia lamp by Terzani in gold and as a complement, the two Tress floor lamps in black by Foscarini on both sides.
Subtle decoration for a very minimalist kitchen
The kitchen of this decoration project for a house in Pedralbes is one of the rooms that remained more complete.
Therefore, in this room, we only chose to incorporate some high stools from Andreu World in black and the Smithfield suspended lamp from Flos for the central island area.
A sophisticated outdoor pergola project
On the south side of the garden of this house in Pedralbes, linked to a porch-living room area, we were presented with a paved space designed to locate a ground fire, but without a well-defined program for outdoor use.
At this point, the client demanded a design solution for an outdoor dining room and barbecue. A space where to gather in the shade and celebrate a meal with friends and family, with a bar for snacks and an outdoor kitchen complete with all appliances easily accessible.
The outdoor kitchen pergola, the jewel of the garden
As this area is presented as a volume adjacent to the main piece, it occurred to the Molins Design team that the best proposal was to propose a similar element.
Thus, analyzing the structure of lacquered aluminum slats of the upper façade, it was feasible to use a similar solution that would replicate that structure, but in this case placed as a horizontal facing.
Based on an arrangement of four aluminum pillars, a large outdoor pergola was generated, creating a shaded space protected from solar radiation.
In this way, a new space has been created next to the main house that is completely blended with the aesthetics of the single-family house.

Outdoor dining room with garden pergola
Under the outdoor pergola is located the dining area with fully equipped kitchen with integrated refrigerator, a cooking area as a barbecue and a water area.
In front of the kitchen is the outdoor dining area which has on one side a large dining table with chairs and bench where you can enjoy outdoor meals with all the comforts and, on the other hand, with a high bar area with stools as a bar for snacks and drinks.
Given that the outdoor kitchen furniture was exposed to inclement weather, it was necessary to opt for a solution that would guarantee resistance and also speak the same language as the rest of the set. For this reason, it was decided to use the same porcelain tile used for the façade cladding to cover all the furniture and appliances.
Closing the perimeter of the enclosure and saving an important height, we built a bench with a ninety-centimeter-high backrest that served as a support base for one of the pillars of the metal pergola and as a seating area for the outdoor dining area.
To give a final touch of contrast and generate a different presence from the rest of the house, we changed the flooring in this space, choosing a synthetic platform that links volumetrically with the adjacent staircase that leads to the lower part of the garden.
A cozy sitting area in the garden
Next to the terrace pergola area and right next to the living room of this house in Pedralbes, there was a porch which the property wanted to take advantage of, turning it into a cozy chill out and relaxation area.
This living area has on the one hand, a sofa area with coffee tables and on the other hand, with a unique large sun lounger for relaxing moments.
All the outdoor furniture is from the Point brand and was chosen to combine the black braided shape of the furniture with cushions in gray and white tones with touches of mustard to give it a point of color that blends perfectly with the interior of the house.
House Tour Pedralbes House (Part 1)
Welcome to the Pedralbes House. We introduce you this decoration project for a magnificent single-family house with four floors and a leafy garden located in the Pedralbes area, at the foot of the Collserola park.
A newly built house completely empty that we have converted into a modern and functional home for a young couple with children who want to settle in Barcelona.
In this first part we show you the whole day area and the exterior where we have designed a fantastic dining area with pergola.
A luxury suite with a very “fashionable” dressing room
On the second floor, we find the main sleeping area, where the three bedrooms of the family are located. The suite consists of a large space that was originally completely diaphanous and empty.
In the initial briefing, the owners had three very clear aspects that the new design of the master bedroom had to comply with: to have plenty of storage space, to differentiate the dressing area of both and to maintain the chromatic line in neutral tones used on the main floor of the house.
With these premises in mind, the suite is dominated by white, black and gray tones with some touches of gold. For this reason, a bed structure with a headboard in beige tones was chosen on a wall covered with a printed paper with a lot of personality by Jim Thompson.
The set is complemented by two small tables Defense, which are Molins own design in black and on which are suspended the Void lamps in gold by Tom Dixon.
Custom furniture design for a luxury suite
In compliance with the briefing requirements, a whole set of L-shaped closets was designed in front of the bed in which a television is hidden, thus avoiding visual noise and fulfilling one of the wishes of the owners.
At the entrance of the bedroom, we are greeted by a majestic island that complements the dressing area with additional drawer space for accessories.
The island is part of the custom wood furniture and is fully integrated into the room. The island is lacquered in the same glossy dark gray as the cabinets and is dominated by a black countertop with white Dekton veins.
A custom-made bathroom with a spa atmosphere
To adapt the en-suite bathroom to the aesthetic and functional desires of the owners, a small renovation was required to redesign this space and transform it into a true oasis of relaxation worthy of a spa.
Taking advantage of the skylight in the space, the sink area was placed just below to take advantage of the natural light.
In this area stands out the beautiful piece of granite chosen for the countertop, on which are located two pieces of Duravit sinks and sophisticated Bongio faucets in matte gold finish.
All the distribution and design of custom furniture for this luxurious bathroom, is arranged symmetrically and houses a large storage space that allows to maintain a clean and tidy aesthetic.
A tasteful bedroom fantasy in pink
The couple’s little daughter enjoys a very cozy and tasteful bedroom. Just entering and embraces us a warm feeling of comfort thanks to the silky textures and soft shades chosen for this children’s bedroom.
The white, beige and white tones predominate the set of furniture, but the real star of the bedroom is the pink color, the favorite of the small of the house.
This color is found especially in the fabrics such as the carpet, the headboard of the bed, the curtains and also in the beautiful Romo wallpaper that covers the walls of this cozy bedroom.
The curved lines and organic shapes predominate in the design of custom furniture, favoring the enveloping and cozy atmosphere that characterizes this fantasy of a room.
Cute decoration for children’s bedroom
Suspended lamps on both sides of the bed in the shape of a Kundalini globe add the final touch to finish off the custom-made bed area.
The children’s bedrooms in this detached house have a suite-like layout, as both have an integrated bathroom.
These bathrooms were already there originally, and both are designed in very neutral white tones that work very well with the aesthetic line of the rest of the house, so they have remained the same.
A dreamy children’s bedroom
The son’s bedroom had to be as comfortable as the daughter’s but adapted to her tastes. A challenge that was very fun and satisfying because in the words of the little one of the house “it is the best bedroom he has ever had”.
For this bedroom we used again white, beige and natural light wood tones but this time combining them with the son’s favorite color: blue.
A custom-made children’s bed
The occupant of this bedroom was very clear about the one requirement he wanted for his bedroom design: a bed that would look like a cabin. With this goal in mind, we designed this tall bed frame with integrated stairs and a set of wooden slats for protection and to create that sense of shelter.
In this very special bedroom, we designed a large bookshelf from which the desk starts, creating a study area ideal for homework or to have fun with puzzles and games of pieces that the little one of the house is fond of.
House Tour Pedralbes House (Part 2)
Welcome to the second part of the Pedralbes House Tour. We present you this decoration project for a magnificent single-family house with four floors and lush garden located in the Pedralbes area, in the foothills of the Collserola park.
A newly built house completely empty that we have converted into a modern and functional home for a young couple with children who want to settle in Barcelona.
In this second part we show you the different bedrooms of the house and two very special corners.
A rooftop with views of Barcelona
On the rooftop of this house decoration project in Pedralbes, we found a generous 80m2 terrace with spectacular views of the whole city.
A privileged terrace that we had to take advantage of and in which we created a living area and a terrace kitchen in the purest chill out style, without forgetting to place some sun loungers as a solarium to take advantage of the sun’s rays.
A bedroom with double functionality
One floor below the main floor, we find in one of the wings of the house, an area with two large bedrooms and in the opposite wing, the service area.
The first of the bedrooms is a large suite that serves both as a guest room at specific times and as an office area that the owner uses to telework frequently.
At the level of chromaticism, beige and earth tones with dots of black stand out. The furniture is all custom-made and the most remarkable element is the large oval-shaped desk of Molins own design as well as the set of bedside tables and the large closet with backlit niche.
The decorative touch is provided by the lighting elements, both with the set of lamps suspended over the nightstands of the Forestier brand and with the table lamp of the Aromas brand on the desk.
A luxury guest bedroom
The other guest bedroom also has an en suite layout with integrated bathroom, but the characteristic feature that sets it apart is the English garden for private use.
In this bedroom, green is the main color. A color that we use both for the upholstery of the structure and the headboard of the bed as for the wall covering with a nice textured wallpaper Zoffany.
On the other hand, black was used in the rest of the furniture that makes up this bedroom as the Molins design bedside tables, the bench at the foot of the bed made of bouclé fabric in dark color or the two suspended lamps of Aromas.
A laundry corner with kitchen very optimized
On the same floor, but in the opposite wing of this house in Pedralbes, is located the service area. At this point, we highlight the room for the laundry that also has a small kitchen for service.
A large room but where space is fully optimized to the millimeter, becoming one of the most multifunctional spaces of the house.
For the whole set of custom-made furniture, modules in gloss lacquered melamine in raw tones were combined with Silestone porcelain for the countertops. On both sides, Blanco stainless steel sink and faucet sets were included.
A fully equipped gym at home
In the basement of this luxury house in Pedralbes, where the parking and all the machinery of the house are located, there was a large space with great potential that had to take advantage and locate two very different spaces, but that were on the wish list of the owners.
By means of a partition as a glazed wall with black profiles with an access door to the second space, the room was divided into two clearly differentiated areas.
Upon entering, we are greeted by a gym area where the whole set of machinery and sports equipment that already had the property is located.
This private gym area at home was complemented by coating the entire back wall with a mirror to gain a sense of spaciousness and on the opposite side, a TV and a cabinet as a closet to store other smaller sports accessories were added.
An exclusive couture atelier at home
The second space was converted into a large sewing room. One of the favorite corners of the owner, who is a designer and a great fan of fashion.
Creating this space was one of the objectives we set ourselves at the beginning of the project, as it was a challenge that we really wanted and a very special assignment.
This sewing room was designed as a work and inspiration space where the owner could give free rein to creativity and have all the material in an organized and accessible way.
Custom-made wooden furniture
For this area, we designed a whole set of cabinets in light tones to house patterns, fabrics and all kinds of accessories. The central part is reserved for sewing, so we placed the two sewing machines that the owner uses the most and two hanging lamps in black by Faro to ensure focal and movable points of light.
As it could not be otherwise, it could not miss a large high table where you can work comfortably with patterns and rolls of fabric. For ideal lighting and as a complement to the space, we included a sinuous pendant lamp from DCW Éditions.
To finish off the decoration of this sewing room, we added several stools and a storage cart from Magis in white and natural wood.
