Finestrelles Dúplex
Located in Finestrelles, at the foot of Tibidabo mountain, this family duplex decoration in Finestrelles project was created with a clear purpose: to transform a new-build property into a warm, functional home full of personality.
The home is set in a new residential area of Esplugues de Llobregat. It has 100 square metres of interior space distributed over two floors and was designed for an international family with three teenage children who are moving to Barcelona.
Family duplex decoration in Finestrelles: a warm and contemporary home
From the beginning, the main challenge was to give soul to a new-build property that still felt neutral and impersonal. Therefore, the project focused on adding warmth, visual continuity and a serene aesthetic. At the same time, it had to respond to the practical needs of a large family and create an elegant, welcoming home that would be easy to live in.
Moreover, as this was a family home, it was essential for each space to have a clear function. The ground floor had to encourage shared family life, while the upper floor needed to offer more intimate and personalised areas for each member of the family. As a result, the project combines a coherent global vision with specific solutions adapted to each room.
The style of the project is defined by a warm, bright and enveloping contemporary aesthetic. It is a balanced proposal, where every material, colour and texture has been carefully selected to create a timeless and welcoming atmosphere.
The colour palette is based on neutral shades such as off-whites, soft creams, beige, sand tones and warm taupes. Thanks to this palette, the home gains luminosity and visual spaciousness. Likewise, these tones create a calm background that allows natural materials, soft textiles and bespoke pieces to stand out.
One of the main features of the project is natural oak wood. It appears in the kitchen, in the wardrobes, in the transition elements and also in part of the furniture. Its presence brings unity, warmth and a coherent connection between interior architecture and decoration.
In addition, the wood helps soften the initial image of the new-build property, turning it into a much more domestic and personal space.
This light wood is complemented by other natural-looking materials, such as the travertine of the dining table, the porcelain worktops, vegetal fibres, large-format rugs and pleasant textured fabrics.
As a result, the whole project conveys a discreet elegance, very much in line with the Molins Design language: a carefully designed aesthetic, yet always intended to be lived in.

The day area as an open and connected space
The ground floor brings together the day area, formed by the kitchen, dining room and living room. Originally, the kitchen was an independent room, separated from the living room by a wall and with its own entrance from the hallway. However, one of the most important decisions of the project was to remove this division in order to create a single open, continuous space visually connected to the outdoor terrace.
This intervention made it possible to gain visual spaciousness and improve the relationship between the different uses of the room. Thus, the kitchen no longer works as an isolated space and becomes fully integrated into the family’s daily life. At the same time, the dining room and living room benefit from a greater sense of openness, light and fluidity.
The original grey porcelain flooring in the kitchen was also replaced with the same parquet used in the living room. This seemingly simple gesture was decisive in unifying the entire ground floor. In this way, the day area is perceived as one spacious, orderly and coherent environment, where each element forms part of the same decorative narrative.

A bespoke open-plan kitchen
The kitchen design is one of the key points of this family duplex decoration in Finestrelles project. By opening it up to the living and dining areas, it becomes the central piece of the day area. For this reason, its design had to be functional, but also aesthetic, while remaining completely integrated into the whole.
All the furniture was custom designed and manufactured by the Molins Design cabinetmaking team in natural oak-effect melamine. This choice creates a warm, orderly and visually light kitchen that blends naturally into the shared space. Furthermore, the use of the same finish in the transition corner between the kitchen and the living room reinforces the continuity between the different areas.
An open kitchen with island: spaciousness and functionality
A multifunctional island was designed at the centre of the kitchen. On the one hand, it expands the work surface and provides additional storage capacity. On the other hand, it integrates a small wine fridge, which was a specific request from the homeowners. In addition, it includes a bar area with two stools, ideal for breakfasts, quick meals or informal family moments.
The worktops, both on the island and on the main kitchen front, were made with two-centimetre-thick porcelain by Abkstone. This material provides resistance and durability, while also adding a very elegant stone-like texture. Consequently, the kitchen achieves a perfect balance between functionality, design and warmth.
A dining area with soft shapes and noble materials
Next to the kitchen is the dining area, conceived as a comfortable, bright and well-proportioned meeting point. For this space, a round table with a travertine top and base was selected. Its circular shape is particularly suitable, as it softens the overall composition and encourages circulation in a floor plan where every centimetre has been carefully considered.
The travertine introduces a mineral and sophisticated note that dialogues with the light wood of the kitchen and the neutral tones of the rest of the home. Moreover, as it is a rounded piece, it contributes to creating a more organic and gentle atmosphere.
The chairs were chosen for both their design and functionality. Their structure allows them to be tucked neatly under the table, which is essential for keeping circulation clear. Above the table, the Eli lamp by Aromas becomes a standout feature. Its circular design reinforces the play of soft lines and provides warm, enveloping lighting.
In this way, the dining area not only solves an everyday function, but also becomes a key visual element within the day area.
Living room elevation view
A serene, bright and welcoming living room
The living room is conceived as a daily relaxation space, designed for sharing family moments and enjoying the natural light that enters from the terrace. The main piece is an L-shaped sofa upholstered in light-coloured chenille. In addition, this sofa can be fully extended and converted into a guest bed, adding an extra function without compromising the overall aesthetic.
In front of the sofa, a coffee table with a travertine marble top and natural wood legs reinforces the warmth of the room. On it, a carefully curated selection of decorative objects from Selection by Molins maintains the chromatic coherence of the space. The framed artworks above the sofa introduce a graphic and contemporary gesture, adding contrast without breaking the overall serenity.
The custom-made rug by KP plays an essential role in the composition. Due to its large dimensions, it visually frames the living area and, at the same time, embraces the dining room. Thanks to this, both areas are connected within the same soft and comfortable surface. In addition, the rug helps create a greater sense of spaciousness and reinforces the welcoming character of the room.
Regarding the colour palette, the project works with whites, creams, beige and toasted tones in curtains, cushions, upholstery and auxiliary pieces. Thus, the living room becomes a bright, calm and highly pleasant refuge for everyday life.
A sober and functional teenage bedroom
The son’s bedroom is also located on the ground floor. As in the rest of the teenage bedrooms, one of the priorities was to maximise the size of the bed within the possibilities of the room. Therefore, the layout was planned in a highly functional way, making the most of every available metre.
In this case, the design works with a combination of navy blue and grey, two shades that bring sobriety, depth and a more defined character. This palette appears both in the Venetian blinds and in the decorative wallpaper on the main wall.
The wallpaper has a double function. On the one hand, it acts as a visual headboard, adding presence and personality to the bedroom. On the other hand, it works as a decorative dado, protecting the wall from daily use. In this way, the bedroom combines aesthetics and practicality, responding to the needs of a teenager.
A 70 m² terrace with 180-degree views over Barcelona
The relationship with the outdoors is one of the great attractions of this duplex. In front of the entire day area, large balcony doors connect the interior with a 70 m² terrace from which you can enjoy views of Tibidabo mountain and, at the other end, even the sea.
In this outdoor space, the project introduces a distinctive chromatic note through olive green. This tone appears in both the outdoor dining area and the lounge area, through several pieces by Kave Home. The green adds freshness, character and a visual connection with the natural surroundings, while maintaining the serene elegance that defines the interior.
To dress and delimit the space, a custom-made outdoor rug by Cotlin was incorporated. This resource helps organize the different uses of the terrace and adds a more domestic and comfortable feeling. In addition, large-format terracotta pots with artificial greenery by Bossvi were added. This was a practical solution for the homeowners, who wanted an outdoor space that would always look cared for and require no maintenance due to their lifestyle and frequent travels.
Thus, the terrace becomes a natural extension of the home: a space designed to relax, share and enjoy Barcelona’s climate.

The upper floor brings together the main suite and the two daughters’ bedrooms. Unlike the ground floor, which is more open and shared, this area is conceived as a more intimate and personal space. However, although each bedroom responds to different tastes and needs, they all maintain the same decorative sensitivity.
On this floor, colour takes on a greater role. While the day area is based on a neutral and natural foundation, the bedrooms introduce personalised nuances: sage green, dusty pink, pastel green, mustard, blue and grey. Nevertheless, these colours are always used in a controlled way, combined with soft textiles, decorative wallpapers and warm materials.
Thanks to this strategy, each room has its own identity, while the whole maintains a harmonious and coherent reading.
A main suite in sage green and soft cream
The main suite is conceived as a private, serene and enveloping refuge. It includes an integrated dressing area and an independent bathroom, so it is designed as a complete space for rest and disconnection.
In this bedroom, the palette is based on sage green and soft cream, two tones that bring calm, freshness and a sense of retreat. The green appears in the Gancedo decorative wallpaper, which covers the upper part of the wall, and also dialogues with the rest of the textiles: the headboard, the rug, the curtains and the bedspread.
The choice of these tones also responds to the existing flooring, with which they combine naturally. Furthermore, the use of enveloping textiles contributes to creating a more comfortable and sophisticated atmosphere. As a result, the main suite becomes a balanced, elegant and highly pleasant space, where texture and colour work together to encourage rest.
A bedroom with energy in mustard tones
This bedroom for one of the daughters presents a more energetic, expressive and personal proposal. In this case, the mustard shade becomes the main feature, appearing both in the graphic pattern of the wallpaper and in the bedspread. Mustard is a vibrant colour, full of strength and character.
However, when combined with the raffia of the headboard and the warmth of the wooden bedside tables, the result maintains a pleasant and natural balance. This mix creates a cheerful, lively bedroom with a clearly defined decorative language.
In addition, the use of warm materials prevents the colour from becoming excessive. On the contrary, the room conveys energy, but also comfort. Thus, this bedroom reflects the personality of its user and brings a dynamic note to the serene aesthetic of the home.
A delicate bedroom in pastel green and dusty pink
One of the daughters’ bedrooms responds to the desire to create a soft, relaxed and calm atmosphere. To achieve this, a combination of pastel green and dusty pink was chosen, two delicate tones that bring freshness, sweetness and serenity.
Pastel green appears in the upholstered headboard, the bedside tables and the delicate decorative wallpaper on the rear wall. Meanwhile, dusty pink is introduced through the rug, the upholstered bed base, the curtains and the bedding. This combination creates a feminine bedroom without falling into an overly childish aesthetic. On the contrary, the result is a young, elegant room prepared to evolve with its user.
Opposite the bed, a small dressing-table corner was incorporated. This piece responds to a very common need in today’s teenage bedrooms and also adds a sense of intimacy and personal use within the room.

The opening of the kitchen, the continuity of materials, the presence of wood, the use of enveloping textiles and the personalisation of the bedrooms make it possible to create a comfortable, elegant and functional home.
