Empordà House
This Mediterranean home decor project was commissioned by long-time clients looking to transform their second home into a warm and inviting retreat.
Located just minutes from the charming village of Pals, this newly built house sits in a unique natural setting in the heart of the Baix Empordà. Designed as a private summer oasis, it’s where the owners escape for peaceful weekends and relaxed holidays on the Costa Brava.
Mediterranean Home Decor on the Costa Brava: Style, Warmth and Balance in Empordà House
Part of a contemporary residential complex by architect Damián Ribas, the 135 m² home is arranged on a single floor. The layout is clearly divided into two main zones: an open-plan living area and a night zone with three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a home office overlooking a serene interior patio.
Outside, a lush Mediterranean garden surrounds a white-stone pool. Here, we designed a cosy dining and lounge area that seamlessly extends the indoors to the open air.
At Empordà House, we were in charge of styling and decorating both indoor and outdoor spaces, using custom furniture, soft furnishings and lighting that respond to the architecture, vegetation and natural light of the surroundings.
The result is a serene and functional second home with a Mediterranean interior design concept that encourages slow, intentional living.
In the heart of the Empordà, we transform this house into a Mediterranean refuge full of harmony, warmth and style.
Outdoor furniture, textiles, lighting and interior design designed to turn this second residence into the dream oasis of its owners.
Open-plan kitchen with garden views
The kitchen at Empordà House is a cosy, open space that blends effortlessly into the living room, designed to encourage sharing, cooking and living without boundaries.
A functional module acts as a pass-through and storage for essential kitchenware. Above it, we added suspended anthracite-toned lamps by Aromas that echo the overall colour scheme and natural materials of the home—practical and stylish, ideal for a second residence.
Every detail in this corner enhances what truly matters: comfort, light, and a sense of togetherness.
Warm interiors with Mediterranean soul
The dining area of this Mediterranean home decor project balances functionality with elegance. At the heart of the room stands a round wooden table, perfect for creating a relaxed, intimate atmosphere.
Black chairs from the owners’ previous home add visual contrast and a modern edge, while a large pendant light in black metal and leather introduces warmth and personality to this stylish setting.
A cosy Mediterranean-style living room
The living room is the true heart of the home: a warm and enveloping space designed for relaxation and togetherness. While not particularly large, its thoughtful layout and carefully selected furnishings transform it into a cosy Mediterranean-style living room.
Natural materials and soft neutral tones convey a sense of calm and harmony. A wood-burning fireplace and a custom-made L-shaped sofa upholstered in a cotton-linen blend enhance the room’s inviting, cocoon-like feel.
Natural textures and made-to-measure design in the living area
Every detail in the living room has been chosen with care to create a sophisticated yet functional atmosphere. The custom-designed sofa takes centre stage, blending seamlessly with the continuous microcement flooring in a soft stone tone.
A bespoke rug in sisal and wool adds texture and warmth, while a set of solid wood and black glass coffee tables from Kave Home brings a touch of contemporary flair.
Lighting is resolved with a sleek black wall lamp, completing a space where comfort and design live in perfect harmony.
Functional and balanced layout on a single floor
The layout of this Mediterranean home decor project on the Costa Brava was designed to support a relaxed and comfortable lifestyle—ideal for a second home by the sea.
The house is organized on a single 135 m² floor, with a clear separation between day and night areas. The day zone, fully open-plan, integrates the kitchen, dining and living areas into one fluid space that encourages connection and shared moments.
On the opposite side, the private zone includes three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a home office with views of the interior patio, offering intimacy without sacrificing natural light. A layout that prioritizes flow, comfort and Mediterranean simplicity.
A home office with a view in a Mediterranean house
In this decoration project, we created a home office that is both functional and full of charm, taking advantage of an expanded hallway space that opens directly onto the patio garden.
The workspace is seamlessly integrated into the home thanks to a careful selection of natural materials and rustic-style furnishings. Bathed in light from the garden—where a young olive tree grows—this serene corner is ideal for remote work or quiet reading.
This Mediterranean-style home office balances aesthetics, comfort and practicality in perfect measure.
A master suite with a traveller’s soul
The master suite at Empordà House is a spacious, light-filled sanctuary designed for rest and relaxation. Conceived with an open-plan layout, the suite brings together the bedroom, dressing area and en-suite bathroom in a fluid space that enhances visual continuity and a sense of calm.
High ceilings with light wood beams amplify the verticality and reinforce the airy, Mediterranean feel that defines the entire home.
Personalized decor and earthy tones
A key feature of the suite is a large framed artwork brought back from one of the owners’ trips to Africa, which inspired the room’s earth-toned colour palette of browns, beige and sand.
The furniture includes a neutral base: a beige upholstered bed base, a headboard in natural Yutes linen, and dark wood bedside tables. High-quality textiles complete the look—leather cushions, cotton-sateen sheets by Portugal Natura, and a mohair throw from Mantas Ezcaray, one of the studio’s favourite brands.
The result is a serene and elegant space, full of personal touches and Mediterranean softness.
House Tour Empordà House
Join us on the House Tour of this Mediterranean decoration project for a home on the Costa Brava.
In the heart of the Baix Empordà and a few minutes from Pals, we designed this house as an oasis of calm, with warm interiors and an exterior that invites you to disconnect. A Mediterranean refuge where time stands still.
A Mediterranean garden for summer living on the Costa Brava
The garden at Empordà House is one of the owners’ most cherished spaces. Designed as a natural extension of the interior, this Mediterranean-style garden with pool balances simplicity, elegance and functionality.
The white stone pool, the sandy tones of the surrounding surfaces, and the native vegetation create a relaxed and timeless atmosphere—ideal for disconnecting and enjoying long summer days on the Costa Brava.
The outdoor layout allows for different zones, from a sunbathing area to open-air dining and lounging spaces.
White stone pool and sunbathing area in a Mediterranean setting
The pool is the focal point of the garden, designed with white stone to blend naturally into its surroundings and to enhance the luminous, peaceful ambiance of the space.
Around it, we created a sunbathing area with grey loungers, ideal for soaking up the Costa Brava sun in total comfort. With clean lines and natural textures, this outdoor zone reflects the perfect harmony between Mediterranean aesthetics and functional design.
Outdoor design with custom furniture and Mediterranean style
Staying true to the overall look and feel of the home, the garden design finds balance between minimalism and warmth. We repurposed a large built-in microcement bench to create an outdoor sofa, dressed with custom cushions in brown and white stripes.
Woven outdoor furniture adds comfort and style to both the lounge and dining areas, creating the perfect setting for long summer evenings with family and friends.
This is a perfect example of how Mediterranean outdoor decor can elevate everyday life through thoughtful design and natural beauty.
