The first decision was to take advantage of the living room’s double height to create a large boiserie with a contemporary feel, designed and created by our interior design team, as well as replacing the classic rustic fireplace with a more modern piece.
Behind this basic decoration element in rustic houses, we also created a complete storage area with cupboards and space for the television, and integrated a vertical box that serves as a firewood storage. Such box has a decorative function at the top and is purely functional at the bottom.
Mountain house decoration
Located in the small village of Saneja in “La Cerdanya”, this house is made of natural wood and stone, with a splendid slate gable roof. With a rustic and country style, Molins Design approaches the design and decoration of mountain houses in one of the most beautiful and peaceful areas of the Pyrenees.
This home is integrated in a row of modern, semi-detached mountain houses. Therefore, the intention to add a new style to the home was paramount. In fact, this house’s owners wanted to differentiate it from the rest with a special interior design and decoration that would give it a unique personality.
Satisfied with the work carried out by our team of interior designers in their main home in Barcelona, the owners of this house in ·La Cerdanya” did not hesitate to commission us to renovate their holiday home.
Thanks to their confidence in our interior design studio, they gave us freedom to develop a very personal project. In addition, we implemented daring proposals closely linked to the decoration of mountain houses with stone and wood design.
To equip the kitchen we also opted for a very modern design furniture from the Molins Cocinas line. Thus, we chose a sophisticated point that gives the black and glossy finish of the furniture, in contrast to the wooden handles that give the original and very personal touch.
To complete the most functional area of the kitchen we installed the countertops and kitchen fronts coated in black granite Zimbabwe by Levantina, an induction hob, extraction hood with removable front, wine cooler and ovens by Smeg.
The approach to interior decoration in a mountain house like Saneja is distinctly wintry, in the manner of an intimate and cozy mountain retreat. This stems on the fact that it is a second residence, which is used exclusively during the ski season.
To achieve this effect we used a palette of warm colors and earth tones, with the grayish brown of the walls as the protagonist in all spaces, even in the master bedroom, for which we designed a headboard, upholstered in Élitis faux fur fabric, and dressed the bed with very cozy fabrics for the cushions, the foot of the bed blanket and the bedspread.
Warmth in common spaces
The distributor, located on the lower floor of this mountain house, and through which the bedrooms are accessed, breathes the same warmth and feeling of seclusion as the rest of the house’s spaces.
Wood in the floor, ceiling, woodwork and furniture accompanies us in each of the rooms.
For the design of the children’s bedroom, also located on the lower level, we custom-made all the furniture in oak wood, as a material that provides aesthetic continuity with respect to the rest of the rooms.
These elements, the bunk beds, the bookcase and the table with side legs, bring practicality to a multifunctional space designed and custom-made for the youngest members of the family, thanks also to the use of fun motifs and colors, such as the Gnomes stools by Kartell and the Miss Sissi lamps by Flos.
Full-coloured children’s bedroom
This room also features a trundle sofa bed, custom-made by our team and upholstered with fabric from Les Créations de la Maison, on which we added multicoloured cushions also made by our team, with fabrics from Pierre Frey and Designers Guild.
To create the guest bedroom, consisting of two single beds, we followed the same chromatic range of sober and warm tones as those proposed in the house’s main rooms, so to establish a line of continuity in the overall style of the house.
